NHTSA Steps Up Honda CR-V Headlight Probe

Law360, New York (September 16, 2011, 4:25 PM EDT) -- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Sept. 12 upgraded its defect investigation into alleged headlight problems with Honda CR-V vehicles to an engineering analysis, a step that could lead to an eventual recall.

The NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation had opened a preliminary evaluation based on 12 reports from consumers that both low-beam headlights on the vehicles — model years 2002 through 2004 — stopped working simultaneously, according to a notice posted on the safety regulator's website.
