US Ambassador Urges China To Lower Trade Barriers

Law360, New York (September 20, 2011, 4:07 PM EDT) -- U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke on Tuesday called for a “closer commercial relationship” between the two countries, urging Beijing to lower restrictions placed on foreign investment, allow its currency to appreciate and enforce intellectual property rights.

In a speech to members of the American and Chinese business community in Beijing, Locke praised the economic reforms China has undertaken over the past 30 years but said an acceleration and expansion of these reforms would be of great economic benefit to both countries.
