ARCO, B&W Land $80M Verdict In Nuke Plant Coverage Suit

Law360, New York (September 20, 2011, 7:02 PM EDT) -- A Pennsylvania jury on Monday found American Nuclear Insurers liable for $80 million in settlements Babcock & Wilcox Co. and Atlantic Richfield Co. paid to resolve hundreds of claims that radiation from their nuclear facilities gave people cancer and damaged property.

Following an afternoon of deliberations, jurors in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas found B&W’s $52.5 million settlement and ARCO’s $27.5 million settlement of the underlying claims to be fair and reasonable, leaving ANI on the hook for the combined amount.
