Attys Hope Patent Reform Will Cut USPTO Backlog

Law360, New York (September 28, 2011, 6:00 PM EDT) -- Provisions in the new patent reform law allowing the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to set its own fees have attorneys hopeful that the office will use added funds to cut the backlog of applications and issue patents more quickly.

The America Invents Act has been promoted by President Barack Obama and other supporters as a way to speed up the patent application process and end the delays that have left about 700,000 applications waiting for review.
