Ex-University Worker Wins $1M In Disability Bias Suit

Law360, San Diego (September 22, 2011, 7:50 PM EDT) -- An Iowa federal court last week backed an award of more than $1.1 million to a former Upper Iowa University employee after a jury found that the school improperly fired her while she was coping with depression and other conditions.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jon Scoles agreed Sept. 16 with the jury’s verdict that the university should pay Lynne Seabrooke, a former assistant registrar of international programs for the university, nearly $370,000 in damages for disability discrimination and $750,000 in punitive damages.
