Philippines Fights WTO Liquor Tax Ruling

Law360, New York (September 23, 2011, 3:34 PM EDT) -- The Philippines on Friday appealed a recent World Trade Organization ruling that the country's taxes on distilled spirits violate international trade law by implicitly favoring domestic brews over imports from the U.S., the European Union and elsewhere.

The country notified the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body that it intended to appeal the Aug. 15 panel report saying the Philippines' excise tax scheme ran afoul of its international obligations.
