Rig Workers Hurt On Land Can Get Comp, High Court Told

Law360, New York (October 12, 2011, 3:38 PM EDT) -- The widow of a fatally injured oil rig worker sparred with her husband's ex-employer Tuesday in the U.S. Supreme Court, arguing some workers injured on land are covered by a federal law granting compensation for injuries caused by drilling conducted on the Outer Continental Shelf.

The case stems from an incident in which Juan Valladolid, an employee of Pacific Operators Offshore LLC, was killed while working on land, moving scrap metal that had been taken from an offshore rig above the Shelf.
