Samsung Says Bilski Knocks Out AU Optronics LCD Patent

Law360, New York (September 26, 2011, 7:00 PM EDT) -- Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. on Friday told the U.S. International Trade Commission that a liquid crystal display patent it is accused of infringing by AU Optronics Corp. is too abstract to be patentable under the U.S. Supreme Court’s Bilski test.

Samsung said that AU's patent for a spacing system used to support the various physical layers of an LCD display consists only of a mental conception of the arrangement process, and thus AU cannot enforce the patent in its ITC case against Samsung.
