VW Wins EU Antitrust Approval For MAN Takeover

Law360, New York (September 26, 2011, 8:45 PM EDT) -- The European Commission signed off Monday on Volkswagen AG's bid to take over German truck maker MAN SE after concluding that the combined company would still have to compete with well-established rival manufacturers.

After examining Volkswagen's plans to merge MAN with Swedish truck maker Scania AB, which is controlled by the German auto giant, the European Union antitrust watchdog decided that the transaction wouldn't threaten competition for heavy trucks, buses, diesel engines and chassis in the 27-member bloc.
