Dutch Court Upholds Ban on Russian "Harry Potter" Clone

Law360, New York (November 6, 2003, 12:00 AM EST) -- An Amsterdam appeals court upheld a ban Thursday on the publication of a Russian novel that it said infringed on the copyrights of J.K. Rowling's best-selling Harry Potter series, Reuters reported.

Dmitry Yemets' "Tanya Grotter and the Magic Double Bass" was too similar to Rowling's "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" to be regarded as "an independent creation," the court said in a written ruling.
