Lawmakers Move To Boost Mine Safety Laws

Law360, New York (June 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A year after 47 miners died while working, a group of lawmakers has introduced a legislation package aimed at further stepping up mine safety by improving emergency response and rescue plans and boosting the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration's regulatory powers.

The legislation, presented in both the Senate and House of Representatives on Tuesday, comes just over a year after President George Bush passed the Mine Improvement and New Emergency Response Act, which modernized emergency and safety requirements in mines.
