Woman Handed $2M For Wal-Mart Bias

Law360, New York (June 20, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Responding to allegations of gender discrimination and wage disparities that by now are familiar to the retailer, a Massachusetts jury awarded $2 million Tuesday to a former Wal-Mart Stores Inc. employee Tuesday.

The Berkshire Superior Court found that Cynthia Haddad, who worked as a pharmacist at the Pittsfield, Mass. Wal-Mart between 1993 and 2004, had been underpaid based on her gender and then fired after she agitated for better pay.
