US Faces Little Threat From CBERA Imports: ITC

Law360, New York (September 30, 2011, 6:33 PM EDT) -- Imports receiving preferential tariff treatment under a law designed to boost Caribbean nations generally posed little threat to U.S. products in 2010, the U.S. International Trade Commission said Friday, though domestic methanol producers could face significant challenges from the protected imports.

By and large, imports benefiting from the elimination or reduction of duties under the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act had a negligible effect on the U.S. economy, industries and consumers, the ITC concluded in its latest biannual report on the effects of the 1983 law....
