E.U. Software Patent Initiative Fails In Last-Minute Legislative Maneuver

Law360, New York (December 21, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Once again, European governments have failed to reach an agreement on legislation on software patents, a policy initiative with a tortuous history.

The proposed Directive on the Patentability of Computer Implemented Inventions, which addresses the issue of software patents, faced a vote on Tuesday afternoon at a meeting of the E.U.’s Council on Agriculture and Fishery.
