DOI Wants Eye On Contractors At Offshore Oil Wells

Law360, New York (October 4, 2011, 6:53 PM EDT) -- The federal government is taking steps to regulate contractors that work on offshore oil drilling rigs, a top official at the U.S. Department of the Interior revealed Tuesday.

Last year’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill gave the United States a clear legal basis to extend its oversight of the oil industry to previously unregulated contractors, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Director Michael Bromwich said.
