Carlyle Makes Buys In Student Travel, Indian Trading

Law360, New York (October 5, 2011, 4:27 PM EDT) -- Private equity juggernaut The Carlyle Group LP announced Wednesday that it had acquired a controlling stake in student travel business WorldStrides and made a major investment in India Infoline Ltd., a Mumbai-based brokerage firm.

Carlyle acquired its interest in WorldStrides, the U.S.’ largest student travel organization, from Charlesbank Capital Partners LLC and Silverhawk Capital Partners, and took a 9 percent stake in India Infoline, becoming a key institutional shareholder, through secondary-market equity purchases, according to the press releases.
