Long-Stalled Free Trade Deals Clear Key Hurdle In House

Law360, New York (October 5, 2011, 9:24 PM EDT) -- The House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday approved the three free trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama, two days after President Barack Obama submitted the long-stalled deals to Congress.

The South Korea agreement was passed out of the panel by a 31-5 vote, the Panama deal by a vote of 32-3 and the Colombia agreement by a narrower 24-12 margin. The votes cleared the way for the full House of Representatives to consider the agreements.
