DOT Fines American Welding $4M Over Unsafe Cargo Tanks

Law360, Chicago (October 7, 2011, 2:47 PM EDT) -- The federal government's motor carrier watchdog slapped American Welding & Tank LLC with nearly $4 million in fines Friday for allegedly violating federal hazardous materials safety standards with its manufacturing of cargo tanks.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said the Fremont, Ohio-based company made and sold unsafe nurse tanks, a kind of cargo tank used to store and transport the hazardous material anhydrous ammonia, used in farming operations.
