US Wants 11th Circ. To Halt Ala. Immigration Law

Law360, New York (October 7, 2011, 5:57 PM EDT) -- The federal government asked the Eleventh Circuit on Friday to block a controversial Alabama law designed to convince illegal immigrants to leave the state, pending appeal of a federal judge's decision to uphold several key parts of the law.

The motion follows U.S. District Judge Sharon L. Blackburn's rejection of a similar request Wednesday, in which she said the U.S. had failed to show that such an “extraordinary remedy” would be necessary to protect the public interest while the Eleventh Circuit considered the appeal.
