Sens. Target FDA Regs To Speed Medical Device Review

Law360, New York (October 14, 2011, 6:10 PM EDT) -- One Republican and two Democratic senators floated legislation Thursday that would pare regulations regarding U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for medical devices and speed up the review process.

Sens. Richard Burr, R-N.C., Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Michael Bennet, D-Colo., unveiled the Medical Device Regulatory Improvement Act, an attempt to stimulate medical innovation by reducing requirements they say burden medical device makers.

The bill comes alongside new efforts by the FDA to streamline product reviews for medical devices.
