Mexico Rolls Back US Tariffs As Border Reopens To Trucks

Law360, New York (October 14, 2011, 7:59 PM EDT) -- Mexico's economic ministry announced Friday that the country would lift punitive tariffs imposed on 99 U.S. products after U.S. authorities cemented the revival of a once-stalled cross-border trucking program by issuing a safety certificate to a Mexican trucking firm.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued the first permit under the new program to Olympic Transport, a company based in Monterrey, the capital of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. Mexico claims the program will benefit both countries.
