Group Challenges Calif.'s Out-Of-State Atty Ban

Law360, New York (October 17, 2011, 6:59 PM EDT) -- Advocates for multijurisdictional legal practice launched a federal lawsuit against California's Supreme Court on Thursday, seeking to overturn the state's ban on out-of-state attorneys who haven't been admitted to California's bar practicing in state courts.

The suit lodged by the National Association for the Advancement of Multijurisdiction Practice claims the ban violates the First and 14th amendments, as well as the commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution.
