Australian Medical Device Maker Sues U.S. Rival Over Cardiac Device Patents

Law360 (January 5, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- An Australian maker of cardiac medical devices has sued a U.S. rival in a Florida federal court, accusing the competitor of infringing its patents.

Australian medical device maker Ventracor Limited filed its lawsuit against Heartware Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, accusing the rival of “willfully infringing” two of Ventracor's established patents.

The patents cover Ventracor’s leading cardiac assist device, the VentrAssist left ventricular assist device currently in a pivotal clinical trial being conducted in Australia, New Zealand and Europe....
