Watchdogs Urge Tech Cos. To Pump Up Privacy Measures

Law360, New York (October 18, 2011, 8:55 PM EDT) -- U.S. and Canadian privacy regulators on Tuesday advised technology companies — especially startups — to invest in privacy protection and data security early on to avoid much bigger losses in the future.

While speaking to a crowd of Internet entrepreneurs at the Web2.0 Summit, David Vladeck, the head of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection, likened his role as a privacy watchdog to that of a chaperone at a school dance.
