EU Fines Nippon, Others $178M Over Alleged CRT Cartel

Law360, New York (October 19, 2011, 3:42 PM EDT) -- The European Commission fined three producers of cathode ray tube glass, including Nippon Electric Co. Ltd., a total of €128.7 million ($177.7 million) Wednesday, settling an investigation into whether a slew of companies fixed prices on the products.

Nippon Electric, Schott AG and Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. all agreed to pay the penalty after an investigation found that the companies, who produce glass used in computer and television screens, violated the European Economic Area agreement and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, according...
