Pepsi Hit With FTC Complaint Over Doritos Marketing

Law360, New York (October 19, 2011, 9:41 PM EDT) -- Consumer groups on Wednesday filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission accusing PepsiCo Inc.’s Frito-Lay unit of using stealth advertising and data collection to market its Doritos chips to teenagers.

The Center for Digital Democracy and three other organizations urged the FTC to investigate Frito-Lay’s use of video games, concerts, and social networking to carry out “covert advertising campaigns” that unfairly and deceptively target teens in violation of the FTC Act.
