All-Equity Partner Model May Gain Sway With BigLaw Firms

Law360, New York (October 21, 2011, 5:57 PM EDT) -- Law firms are growing dissatisfied with the multitier partnership structures that have gained popularity over the past decade and may follow the lead of DLA Piper in switching to an all-equity model, experts say.

A DLA Piper representative confirmed Friday that a proposal had been put forward to equitize the firm’s nonequity or income partners across all offices outside the U.S. and that the firm would be consulting with its partners over the coming months.
