Prepare For Greater Pipeline Safety Scrutiny

Law360, New York (October 24, 2011, 3:25 PM EDT) -- In response to last year’s pipeline explosion in San Bruno, Calif., the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is considering revising its pipeline safety regulations to expand the miles of pipe subject to integrity management requirements and to strengthen other pipeline safety requirements for gas transmission pipelines.

In an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) published on Aug. 25, 2011, PHMSA also discusses undertaking more comprehensive regulation of gas gathering lines and extending federal safety standards to underground gas storage caverns. The ANPRM does not...
