Enviros Sue EPA Over Spokane River Pollution Limits

Law360, New York (October 24, 2011, 5:44 PM EDT) -- The Sierra Club and the Center for Environmental Law and Policy sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington state Friday for allegedly failing to approve a water quality cleanup plan to address toxic chemicals in the Spokane River.

Under the Clean Water Act, states are required to establish a more stringent pollution limit called total maximum daily loads for waters where technology-based controls cannot be used to limit the discharge of pollutants, according to the complaint.
