Challenges Lie Ahead For US Oil Spill Fund: GAO

Law360, New York (October 24, 2011, 3:55 PM EDT) -- Congress must pinpoint new ways to pump money into the federal government's oil spill response fund, which is set to lose its primary funding source in 2017, the U.S. Government Accountability Office said Monday in a report studying the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

The government watchdog expressed worries about the future of the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund in its third and final report assessing the financial risks facing the federal government in the wake of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
