Neb. Gov. Calls Special Session To Move Pipeline

Law360, New York (October 24, 2011, 5:27 PM EDT) -- In a major turnaround, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman said Monday he would call state lawmakers into a special session to consider legislation to reroute TransCanada Corp.'s oil sands pipeline, a move that could potentially delay the $7 billion project for years.

The state legislature will convene Nov. 1 to try to find a way to move the pipeline away from the Ogallala Aquifer, Nebraska's major water source. Many officials fear that a spill above the aquifer could be catastrophic for state agriculture.
