House Leaders Launch Bill To Fight Online Piracy

Law360, New York (October 26, 2011, 8:50 PM EDT) -- Leaders of the House Judiciary Committee introduced legislation Wednesday designed to give U.S. regulators more tools to fight foreign websites that provide counterfeited goods and pirated materials in violation of U.S. intellectual property laws.

Similar to a bill pending in the Senate, the Stop Online Piracy Act, H.R. 3261, would give the U.S. attorney general new powers to impede foreign websites that rip off U.S. products and would aid regulators in their efforts to choke off funding for those websites and eliminate the safe havens that...
