Jury Awards Novozymes $18M In IP Fight With DuPont Unit

Law360, New York (October 27, 2011, 5:54 PM EDT) -- A Wisconsin federal jury awarded biotech company Novozymes A/S about $18.3 million in damages Thursday in a suit claiming DuPont Co. unit Danisco A/S infringed a Novozymes patent covering an enzyme primarily used to make biofuel.

The jury decided that Danisco, acquired by DuPont in June, had failed to prove that U.S. Patent Number 7,713,723 was invalid after U.S. District Judge Barbara B. Crabb ruled in July that most of Danisco's accused products infringed the '723 patent, entitling Novozymes to recovery of lost profits and royalties....
