Salmonella Concerns Prompt Wegmans Pine Nuts Recall

Law360, New York (October 28, 2011, 7:39 PM EDT) -- Grocer Wegmans Food Markets Inc. announced Wednesday that it had recalled about 5,000 pounds of Turkish pine nuts sold between July and October due to possible contamination by a salmonella bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has identified 43 individuals infected with the strain of salmonella linked to the pine nuts. Out of the reported cases, 26 were in New York, eight in Pennsylvania, four in Virginia, two in New Jersey, and one each in Arizona, Maryland...
