EU Takes 1st Steps To Modernize Trade Defense Regs

Law360, New York (October 31, 2011, 4:54 PM EDT) -- The European Union moved Friday toward revising its trade defense regulations for the first time in more than 15 years, launching a public review of how it uses dumping, subsidy and safeguard measures to protect companies from unfair competition from around the globe.

The bloc has not updated the provisions since 1995, and the European Commission said the time was ripe to investigate whether the mechanisms — which are meant to protect European companies from underpriced imports, foreign rivals benefiting from unfair subsidies and sudden changes...
