Hospital Operator Drops Insurer From Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (October 31, 2011, 10:42 PM EDT) -- West Penn Allegheny Health System Inc. on Monday dropped claims against Highmark Inc. in an antitrust suit that accused the Pittsburgh health insurance company along with rival hospital operator UPMC of conspiring to raise prices to beat out competitors.

In its notice of dismissal filed in Pennsylvania federal court, West Penn said it voluntarily dismissed all claims against Highmark with prejudice. It did not disclose a reason for dropping the claims.
