Mass. Lawmakers Seek FTC Inquiry Of Fish Mislabeling

Law360, New York (November 1, 2011, 7:24 PM EDT) -- A Boston Globe investigation of widespread mislabeling of fish in restaurants and stores prompted two Massachusetts congressmen to ask the Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday to probe whether the practice violates consumer laws.

Reps. Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Barney Frank, D-Mass., sent a letter to the FTC asking whether the agency was planning to take action to combat the reported fraudulent labeling of seafood, saying mislabeled fish poses health risks and also harms the seafood industry.
