Committee Hands Efficiency Bill Over To House

Law360 (June 29, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The House Energy and Commerce Committee has passed bipartisan legislation that aims to strike a practical balance between environmentally responsible energy use and concessions to industry, sending the bill to the House for consideration.

Committee chair John Dingell (D-Mich.) voiced his intention to remove 8.6 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions—the equivalent of all the emissions of all cars on the road today—by 2030. He has said that his eventual goal is to cut emissions by at least 60% by 2050.
