DOE Weighs Impact Of New Natural Gas Export Permits

Law360, New York (November 8, 2011, 2:20 PM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Energy is looking into whether granting a series of applications to export natural gas could affect domestic gas prices, job creation and other economic factors, an agency official told a Senate committee Tuesday. 

The Energy Information Administration and a private contractor will each conduct studies to determine whether allowing new natural gas exports to non-free trade agreement countries would serve the public interest, Christopher Smith, an assistant secretary for oil and gas, told the Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
