Clothing Co. Disguised Chinese Imports As Russian: US

Law360, New York (November 8, 2011, 2:42 PM EST) -- The U.S. government sued clothing retailer Pier Garden Inc. for $1.9 million in the U.S. Court of International Trade on Monday, accusing the company of importing Chinese apparel while claiming the duds came from Russia.

The government alleges that from Nov. 15, 2004, to June 30, 2006, California-based Pier Garden brought 35 textiles into the country via Seattle and Puerto Rico that it claimed were made in Russia even though they were actually manufactured in China.
