Argentina Fines Shell Over Diesel Fuel Shortages

Law360, New York (July 2, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Argentinian government has hit Royal Dutch Shell plc with $1.6 million in fines for not supplying its service stations with enough diesel fuel.

At a press conference Monday, Economy Minister Felisa Miceli said the government had proven five instances of illegal diesel shortages, and that it was investigating 40 more. A fine of 1 million pesos, or about $323,000, will be imposed for each claim that is proven under the law, known in Spanish as the “Ley de Abastecimiento,” Miceli said.
