EU Moves Closer To New Short Selling, CDS Regs

Law360, New York (November 10, 2011, 6:26 PM EST) -- The European Union moved closer to new rules cracking down on short selling and credit default swaps on Thursday, with ambassadors of member states approving a proposal that leaders brokered last month.

The Committee of Permanent Representatives, the preparatory body for the European Council, confirmed the amended short-selling regulation that grew out of recent negotiations between representatives for the council and the European Parliament, according to spokesmen for the council. The Parliament is slated to vote on the deal Tuesday,
