Arch Coal Gets Nod For 1,700-Acre Wilderness Expansion

Law360, New York (November 10, 2011, 6:44 PM EST) -- The U.S. Forest Service on Tuesday approved the expansion of two coal leases into more than 1,000 acres of roadless wilderness, saying the lease expansion would have no significant impact on the area.

The Forest Service approved the Bureau of Land Management's plan to expand two coal leases owned by Arch Coal Inc. subsidiary Mountain Coal Co. by more than 1,700 acres, some 1,400 acres of which are in a protected roadless area.
