NHTSA To Test Chevy Volt Batteries After Fire

Law360, New York (November 14, 2011, 6:40 PM EST) -- Federal transportation regulators said Friday they were looking into fire risks in electric vehicles powered by lithium-ion batteries, following a fire that occurred in a General Motors LLC Chevy Volt that was being crash tested earlier this year.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it would test the Volt’s batteries for safety issues in the coming weeks and would ask all automakers to provide it with information on their procedures for handling lithium-ion batteries.
