Open Markets Breed Energy Consumers' Charter

Law360, New York (July 5, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As member states continue to deregulate their energy markets, the European Commission has launched a new project aimed at informing consumers of their rights in the recently opened electricity and gas sectors.

In an initiative announced Thursday, the Commission said it would begin drafting the Energy Consumers' Charter, a document that will outline consumer rights relating to contracts, information, prices, dispute settlement and protection against unfair commercial practices.
