CFPB Will Examine Private Student Loan Market

Law360, New York (November 16, 2011, 10:09 PM EST) -- The recently created U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will gather information about the private student loan market to find out more about the loans that have led to billions of dollars in debt in the U.S., the agency announced Wednesday.

The agency says it will ask sources, including students, schools and financial service providers, for more information about private student loans and other consumer financial products used to finance higher education, saying too little was known about the instruments that had put millions in the U.S....
