Kan. Hospital Warns 8K Patients Of Data Breach By Biller

Law360, New York (November 17, 2011, 6:27 PM EST) -- A Kansas hospital said Thursday it had warned more than 8,000 patients and bill payers that some of their personal data — including credit card and checking account information — may have inadvertently been published online.

Janice Early, a spokeswoman for Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kan., said the hospital had reported the breach to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Monday.

“We're not anticipating an investigation or a fine, though it's always a possibility,” Early said.
