Sea Star Line Pays $14M Fine For Part In Shipping Cartel

Law360, New York (November 17, 2011, 6:49 PM EST) -- Shipping company Sea Star Line LLC has agreed to pay a $14.2 million criminal fine for its role in a vast price-fixing conspiracy for freight services between the U.S. and Puerto Rico, federal prosecutors said Thursday.

Sea Star Line agreed to plead guilty in Puerto Rico federal court to a criminal information charging the company with a single violation of the Sherman Act by conspiring with rival companies to fix prices between 2002 and 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
