Smith & Nephew Says Hologic Cut Into Its Surgical Patent

Law360, New York (November 22, 2011, 8:19 PM EST) -- Medical device maker Smith & Nephew, Inc. accused rival Hologic Inc. of infringing its patent covering a surgical cutting system in Massachusetts federal court on Tuesday, the very day the patent was issued.

U.S. Patent Number 8,061,359, entitled "Surgical endoscopic cutting device and method for its use," issued to Smith & Nephew by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday, covers the company's Truclear system, a product used to cut and remove uterine tissue, according to the complaint.
