EU Official Backs Streamlining Of Data Protection Laws

Law360, New York (November 28, 2011, 6:08 PM EST) -- A top European official on Monday called for comprehensive data protection reform that would allow companies to comply with the rules of only one member state and would strengthen the coordination between national data protection authorities.

In prepared remarks delivered in Brussels at a conference organized by the Coalition for Data Protection, EU Justice Commissioner Viviane Reding said proposed reforms to its Data Protection Directive would provide companies and the public with the “consistency and coherence” essential for the digital economy to grow.
